Newsletter - 25th July 2019

Apologies that there was no newsletter last month since the editor was on holiday and could not find anyone willing to take up the reins for the period of absence. This is a perennial problem, hence if you know of anyone who would be willing to help, please encourage them to get in touch.

We attempt to keep the on line diary up to date, but are dependant on clubs, organisers to let the website know if they change. If you do spot anything that is not correct, please do get in touch. Happily, two sets of diary entries are managed by others and that is the Church House and School calendar and are automatically fed to the diary on this website.

You will see from the dairy that school is now out for the summer, however, activity on the site has not ceased. No doubt with the hot weather, the swimming pool will be super busy. Also, the builders are continuing to work at pace to finish the new classroom in time for the Autumn term.

Gainsborough is also the subject of much activity with the old school redevelopment being revealed, work having started on the Bovis homes development and also work having started on the site for the new CO-OP. Inevitably this is causing some traffic disturbance and congestion, particularly as main services are laid on to the new sites.

The judging for the South West in Bloom competition has been done and the team are keenly awaiting the results which will be announced in the autumn.

Improving the environment is also the theme of the “plastic free” initiative, backed by the Parish Council and reported on this month.

The friends of Milborne Port library report on the closure of the old library and the summer reading challenge, activities surrounding this will take place in the Camelot room of the village hall.

The Parish council are now advertising for a new Parish Clerk, with applications closing on 30th July.

The WI report on their activities and upcoming is a meeting at Church House, whilst the gardening club are planning a trip to Wells in August which is open to non members.

We note that there is to be a tea party for Christian Aid volunteers and the sports and social club have live music and bingo in August.
